| Because there seems to have been
some confusion about the Bruce as Bond web site and Bruce's Angels
connection with it, we are reprinting below the original press release
for the Bruce as Bond web site. The project was originally done in the
name of a group calling itself Bruce's Angels. The press release
was created October 3, 2003 by Ariel and distributed shortly thereafter
by Israfel via e-mail and surface
mail. All of the graphics were done by AGWLBP. All of the essays
on
the Bruce as Bond site, except for the
flash animation introduction, were written entirely by Ariel. Most of
the
research for the essays was done by Israfel, with additional help
by Lady Asunja. Several additional ideas for the essays
were provided by Israfel, Lady Asunja and AGWLBP. The name
"Bruce's
Angels" was created by Israfel. Since that time, all mention of Bruce's
Angels have been removed by the present management of the Bruce
as Bond web site, as well as any credit for the individual
contributions. Though the (now) ex-webmaster of AGWLBP has repeatedly demanded recognition for any contributions made by her or AGWLBP, she has not reciprocated in kind in regard to Bruce's Angels or any of the individuals associated with it. Ariel has allowed her writing to remain on the Bruce as Bond web site uncredited and unacknowledged because she wrote it for Bruce Payne's benefit, not for the webmaster of AGWLBP, and hopes that it will continue to serve that purpose in some small measure. We here at Bruce's Angels love that web site and still think it's a pretty fabulous web site and colloboration. If you haven't seen it, please check it out at www.bruceasbond.com |
| BRUCE PAYNE FOR NEXT
BOND Speculations about who will be the next James Bond are flying around the Internet. Adding to that mix is a new web site promoting Bruce Payne for the legendary role. The web site, www.bruceasbond.com, is a creation of Payne fans calling themselves Bruce’s Angels. More than a mere fan site, it actively advocates consideration of Payne through the use of a detailed analysis of Payne’s qualifications, dozens of photos supporting the analysis’ conclusions, and a discussion forum. Bruce’s Angels, so-called because these fans want to help Bruce Payne, not merely admire him, have mounted an extensive advocacy campaign that will include e-mails and letters as well as the web site. Because it is a fan effort with the single purpose of promoting a particular actor in a particular role, it may be unique on the Internet and is certainly highly unusual in the history of film entertainment. The Bruce As Bond web site asserts that no actor is more qualified than Bruce Payne. The larger than life role of James Bond, the film world’s most dangerous and sophisticated spy, requires a talented and extraordinarily handsome actor with a great deal of presence, panache, experience, and sex appeal. The analysis presented on the web site details the reasons why Bruce Payne has these qualifications. Accompanying photos from Payne’s films, demonstrating his good looks, presence and sexiness, support the case being made. Comparisons to the original character, as defined by Ian Fleming, are also carefully drawn to show that Payne can do justice to the role. Many actors are now being touted as possible replacements for soon-to-retire Pierce Brosnan. Some of them are too young and inexperienced to play a role that has come to be a legend. Others fail to meet the criterion suggested by “Entertainment Weekly,” namely “Bond-ability”--the ability to make us forget Sean Connery.” As Brosnan has pointed out in interviews, Connery has a true “animal charisma.” Because that kind of charisma is rare even among handsome actors, it will not be easy to fill Connery’s shoes. The Bruce As Bond web site declares that Payne has the charisma to pull off the difficult criterion of “Bond-ability.” Bruce Angels invite you to see for yourself at http://www.bruceasbond.com |
