Oh,
Pancho... Oh, Cisco... Those who have seen reruns of the
old "Cisco Kid" with Duncan Renaldo and Leo Carrillo will find this
updated film
version based on the classic TV show a bit different and more
roguish. Call us old-fashioned but we prefer the TV series to the
Jimmy Smits/Cheech
Marin version.
Well, that is, except
for one
thing...Bruce is in this version. Gee, that does make a difference,
doesn't it?
Bruce
plays General St.
Martin Dupre, a General who was part of the French occupation in
1867. Understandably, the local residents weren't too happy
about being told what to do by the French. Hey, the French may
make great champagne
and
creme brulee but French rule was
probably about as welcome as an angsty French movie with subtitles and
no plot would be in Keokuk, Iowa. Maybe even less.
We, however,
can enjoy the sight
of General Dupre in his spiffy
military uniform, disdainfully looking down his nose at the peasants,
as only Bruce can do so well. Bruce is good at hauteur, as he amply
demonstrates
elsewhere, for example, as Domitian in The
Apocalypse.
For those who
have not yet seen this film, we apologize for the following spoiler:
the General is very naughty. Not only does he try to do in the Cisco
Kid, he gets way too fresh
with his niece, as one of the pics below shows. Bad boy.
But you weren't really surprised, were you? We didn't think so.
