movie of the month

March 2007

This movie had been described as the world's only vampire-gangster-supernatural- Brechtian-snooker-musical...well, we guess so!  If you want something really  different, this is it.  Snooker, it seems is an English obsession, and this story tells the tale of two obsessed players with the theatrical handles of "Billy the Kid"  and the "Green Baize Vampire."  [For those of you who are not snooker or pool players, the table tops are made from a kind of felt called "baize."]   Bruce plays T.O. (The One), a self-aggrandizer who manages the newcomer 17-year-old Billy, who likes to dress in cowboy clothes.  He has to go up against the 7-time winner who sleeps in a coffin...OK, definitely eccentric. The British do love their eccentrics and so do we.

One of the koolest things about this film for Bruce fans is that Bruce sings.  And he has a good voice too.  And he also gets to wear a white tuxedo and oh, does he look sharp!  In the immortal words of ZZTop, "Every girl's crazy 'bout a sharp-dressed man.."  Oh, sorry, our minds wander...

If you want to see this film and you live in the USA or outside DVD Region 2, you'll have to get yourself a multi-region DVD player because it is only available in a Region 2 DVD British format at Amazon UK.
